How desert safaris in Dubai differ

A desert safari is a guided 4x4 trip into the dunes. What changes from one offer to the next is the time of day, the area, the vehicle and the camp. Many trips go to the Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve, and the operators named here list it on their product pages. Others use camp sites in places such as Al Awir.

The examples below come from single operators in 2026. They show what one product costs, not a market range. Listed prices are not final checkout prices, and a published offer does not show free places on your date. Vehicle, group size and options change the price.

Our picks: desert safaris

Choose the seven-hour camp safari if you want three buffets and shows included. The two shorter safari options suit dune bashing and sandboarding; add their seven-hour option if you also want camp and BBQ.

What actually differs

The points that matter more than the name of the tour.

Dune drive or nature drive

Dune bashing is fast driving over sand slopes. Some operators describe a nature drive without dune bashing, which is a different ride. If you get carsick or have back or neck problems, ask which one you are buying. See dune bashing.

Shared or exclusive vehicle

Shared trips use central meeting points or hotel pickup. One operator offers pickup at a private address when you book a private car. "Private" means an exclusive vehicle. It does not mean an exclusive camp. See private safaris.

The camp program

One heritage package includes a nature drive, a falcon show and an Arabic dinner. That does not mean every camp has a barbecue, belly dancing, quad bikes or alcohol. Read the list of inclusions for the trip you book.

Alcohol

One operator serves no alcohol on its safaris. Others sell drink packages. In Dubai and Abu Dhabi the minimum drinking age is 21, and drinking in public places is illegal.

Tips and etiquette →

Before you book

Practical points that vary by operator.

Book ahead

One operator advises reserving before you arrive because its vehicles and guides are limited. No general booking rule for "the desert" exists, so the advice applies to that operator.

Cancellation

The listed evening and morning offers need notice at least 24 hours before, with no refund after that. The morning offer asks for full payment at least 2 days ahead. Terms differ by operator, so read them before you pay.

Children and seats

Rules are written per product. The evening offer allows some children in shared vehicles with a child seat. The morning offer asks for a private vehicle for toddlers and for guests under 135 cm. Ask for child seats in advance.

Health

One operator warns guests with heart, neck or back problems, and others whose conditions are affected by off-road driving. Pregnant guests should arrange an alternative beforehand. Wear the seat belt during the drive.

Permits

Dubai's tourism department issues separate permits for operators, safari drivers, vehicles and camps. Drivers need a 5-day training course and renew their permit every year. A permit does not tell you how good a tour is.

Ramadan

Camp programs during Ramadan depend on the operator. Eating, drinking and smoking in public during the day can offend, and so can loud music and dancing. One operator asks guests to drink the water it provides inside the vehicle during the day.

Dubai desert safaris: frequently asked questions

Which desert safari is best?

That depends on your time, budget and comfort with off-road driving. A morning trip is shorter, an evening trip adds sunset and dinner, and an overnight stay takes a night. The table above compares examples, not a ranking.

How much does a desert safari cost?

As listed in 2026, an evening safari starts at $177 and a morning safari at $130 per person. A heritage package starts at AED 795 per adult and an overnight stay at AED 1,195. These are single examples, not a market range.

Is a desert safari suitable for everyone?

Not for everyone. Operators warn people with heart, neck or back problems and pregnant guests about off-road driving. A nature drive without dune bashing exists at some operators. Ask before you book, and see a doctor if you are unsure.

What do the travel advisories say right now?

As of 21 October 2026, the German Foreign Office advises against non-essential travel to the UAE (since 30 September 2026) and cites a volatile regional situation and possible airspace closures. The UK advice of 24 July 2026 cites a risk of escalation and flight disruption. The US lists Level 3 ("Reconsider travel") since 29 August 2026. Read your own government's advice before booking and choose flexible cancellation.

Is alcohol included?

It depends on the operator. One operator serves none, and others offer drink packages. Do not assume it is included, and check the list of inclusions.

Can I do a safari in summer?

The summer months are very hot, and Dubai's tourism portal recommends camping from November to April. Operators set their own seasons: the overnight example runs only from 1 October to 30 April. Check the timetable of the trip you want, and see best time to go.
