How a balloon flight over the desert works
A balloon flight is a sunrise trip. You are collected in the middle of the night, driven out to the launch area, and fly for less than an hour. The pilot decides on the day whether the weather allows take-off. The whole outing, from pickup to the drive back, takes about 5 to 6 hours.

The evening before
The operator confirms your pickup time and place. Online booking for the example operator closes at 5 p.m. on the day before the flight, so do not leave it to the last evening.
Pickup in the dark
Pickup falls between about 3:00 and 5:30 a.m., depending on which operator page you read and on the time of year. Wear layers. The desert can be cool before sunrise, and you can take a jacket off later.
In the air
The flight lasts 45 to 60 minutes. The pilot decides at the site whether wind, fog or other weather allows it. A cancelled flight is rebooked or refunded in full, according to the operator.
Back in the city
Count the whole outing as 5 to 6 hours. If you have a safari or a flight the same day, leave a generous gap.

Children
Children aged 7 to 11 pay the child rate. Children under 7 cannot fly.
Health exclusions
The operator excludes pregnant guests, guests with chronic back or neck pain, and anyone who had a major operation or a broken arm or leg in the past 6 months. Guests over 60 fly only with an additional waiver, according to the FAQ.
Weight and fitness
Ask the operator directly about weight limits and about getting in and out of the basket. Do not assume a limit from another operator applies.

Season
The example operator flies daily from October 1 to May 31. There is no single legal balloon season for the whole country, so other operators and other products have their own months. Weather
Balloons are weather-dependent. Wind and fog can delay or cancel a flight, and the decision is the pilot's. A dry month does not rule out a cancellation.
Certification
A federal aviation rule that applies from October 10, 2025 requires commercial balloon operators to hold certification, and the operator document must be carried on board. That rule does not show that any single company holds a current certificate, so ask the operator to confirm it.
