Buggy or quad: what you actually book
On a dune buggy tour you drive yourself, or ride along, in a convoy behind a guide. The operator briefs you, gives you a helmet and goggles, and leads the group across the dunes. A quad bike is a different vehicle with different rules, and a fenced rental area is not the same as an open guided dune ride.
The rules and prices below come from one operator, Big Red Adventure Tours, and apply to its own tours. They are not national rules. A rule that one company sets cannot be carried over to the next company.

Buggy prices at one operator
2026 "from" prices per vehicle. Duration and dates differ, so do not compare rows like for like.
| Vehicle | Seats | Price from (per buggy) |
|---|---|---|
| Single-seat buggy | 1 | AED 1,000 |
| Two-seat buggy | 2 | AED 1,350 |
| Four-seat buggy | 4 | AED 1,700 |
| Maverick R | – | AED 2,800 |
These are public listing prices, not final checkout prices. They are quoted per vehicle, so a four-seat buggy shared by four people costs far less per head than the figure suggests. Ask what the price includes, how long the ride lasts and whether a deposit applies.
Our picks: dune buggy and quad tours
Choose the Polaris buggy tour if the vehicle is your priority, or the Al Madam meeting-point offer to select between a quad and a buggy. The dune safari adds an hour of jeep dune bashing, but its 30-minute buggy ride requires the matching option and is not guaranteed by the starting price.
Hand-picked tours, booked through GetYourGuide. Prices are indicative starting prices in US dollars (as of October 2026). Tap a tour for live availability and the current price in your currency.

Polaris RZR buggy ride with sandboarding
A 1000cc Polaris RZR buggy with a guide (driver plus up to 3 passengers), helmet, briefing, sandboard, a short camel ride and water. The listing also names a camp with BBQ and shows; confirm which duration option includes them. Price is per person, not per vehicle.

Rules at the example operator
Read these as one company's terms.
Age
Drivers must be 16 or older. Passengers can be 5 or older.
Licence
The tours listed do not require a driving licence. That is this operator's rule for these tours. It is not a national rule, so do not assume it holds elsewhere.
Pregnancy
Pregnant guests are excluded from the buggy tours.
Group ride
The tours run as guided convoys, so you follow the guide's line rather than choosing your own route. Ask how many vehicles go out together and how long the ride lasts.
Briefing and equipment
You receive an instruction briefing, a helmet and goggles, and you ride in a guided convoy. Listen to the briefing and keep to the guide's line.
A buggy ride is rough. If you have back, neck or heart problems, read our dune bashing page for the health warnings operators give for off-road driving.
Quad biking in Dubai
Where the rules are not clear.
Do not copy the buggy rules
Minimum age, licence needs and rules for children are set per operator and per vehicle. The buggy terms above do not apply to quads, so ask for the quad terms in writing.
Open ride or rental area
A short loop in a rental area and a guided ride across open dunes are different products with different risks and prices. Ask which one you are booking.
Where quads run
The tourism portal describes Big Red in the Lahbab desert as a place of red sands with sandboarding and quad options. Treat that as a sign of the area, not as permission to ride anywhere. Go with an operator.
Desert safaris compared →Questions for any operator
Ask the minimum age, whether a licence is needed, what the price covers, how long you ride and what protective gear is given.
Sandboarding in Dubai
Usually an extra, rarely the main event.
On a morning safari
One morning safari lists sandboarding as optional and dependent on weather and availability. Do not count on it unless you have it confirmed.
Morning desert safari →With the buggy operator
The example operator advertises sandboarding as part of its offer. Ask whether it is included on your date and whether boards are provided.
Age and fees
Ask for age limits, equipment and any extra fee. Do not assume a general rule.

Dune buggy and quad biking Dubai: frequently asked questions
How old do you have to be to drive a dune buggy in Dubai?
On the example operator's tours, drivers must be 16 or older and passengers 5 or older. Other operators set their own limits, so ask before you book.
Do I need a driving licence?
The example operator does not require one for the tours listed. That is the company's rule, not a country-wide rule, and it does not apply to quads automatically.
Is the buggy price per person?
No. The listed prices are per vehicle, from AED 1,000 for one seat to AED 2,800 for the Maverick R. Divide by the number of riders only after you know how many seats the vehicle has.
Is sandboarding included?
It depends on the product. On one morning safari it is optional and depends on weather and availability, and the buggy operator lists it as part of its offer. Ask about your date.
Can pregnant guests take part?
The example operator excludes pregnant guests from its buggy tours.
What do official travel advisories say right now?
As of October 21, 2026, Germany's Federal Foreign Office has advised against non-essential travel to the United Arab Emirates since September 30, 2026, citing a volatile regional situation and the risk of airspace closures. The UK Foreign Office updated its advice on July 24, 2026 and notes the risk of further escalation, flight cancellations and temporary airspace closures. The US State Department has listed the country at Level 3, Reconsider travel, since August 29, 2026. Read your own country's current advice before you book, and choose flexible cancellation terms.
