What an evening desert safari involves
The evening safari is the best-known desert trip from Dubai. The example described here is one operator's product in the Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve. It lists hotel or apartment pickup, a dune drive, sunset, a falcon show, a camel ride, a barbecue buffet and stargazing. Sandboarding is optional.
Other operators run similar evenings with different camps, vehicles and programs. The details below belong to this one listing, and times can change with the season and the operator. Prices are as listed in 2026 and are not final checkout prices.

The evening in parts
The listing names these parts. The order and times depend on the day.
Pickup and transfer
Pickup is at a hotel or apartment at about 4 p.m. The first stretch of the transfer takes about 45 minutes. Check the exact time with the operator the day before.
Dune drive
The example lists a 30-minute dune and wildlife drive in a 4x4. That is the dune bashing part, and it is only a slice of the six hours. See dune bashing.
Sunset and camp
The trip includes sunset, a falcon show and a camel ride. Sandboarding is an optional extra. The camp program depends on the operator, so do not assume belly dancing, quads or drinks unless the listing names them.
Dinner and stars
A barbecue buffet and stargazing end the evening. Clouds and haze can hide the stars, and the trip does not promise a clear sky.
Our picks: evening desert safaris
Choose the stargazing safari for a telescope and a short camel ride. The two dune-bashing safaris suit a more active outing; for camp and dinner, select the seven-hour option on the sandboarding safari or the BBQ option on the other.

Air-conditioned 4x4 transfer, a short camel ride, a falcon, sandboarding, soft drinks, tea, coffee, dates and a telescope. The sunset and a Bedouin dinner are only part of the chosen option; dune bashing is not listed.

Price, children and cancellation
Rules of the example listing. Other operators differ.
| Topic | What the example says |
|---|---|
| Price | From $177 in 2026; the price shown in your own currency can differ |
| Adults | Age 12 and older |
| Children | Ages 5 to 11 |
| Under 5 | Private vehicle with special seats |
| Children under 135 cm | Child seat needed; shared vehicle allowed from age 5 |
| Cancellation | Tell the operator at least 24 hours before; no refund after that |
| Changes | Weather and operations can change the program |
The morning offer of the same operator has a different seat rule: it asks for a private vehicle for guests under 135 cm. Read the rules of the exact product you book. See the morning desert safari for that one.
What to wear and what to know
Practical points for an evening in the dunes.
Clothing
The operator suggests light clothing in summer. In winter, bring a sweater or jacket, especially for the evening. A hat, sunscreen and sunglasses help before sunset. Modest clothing is recommended in rural and public areas.
More tips →Health
The operator warns guests with heart, neck or back problems and others whose conditions off-road driving can affect. Pregnant guests should arrange an alternative beforehand. Wear the seat belt during the drive.
Photos
Photograph people only with their consent. Do not photograph government or military sites.
Ramadan
During Ramadan, eating, drinking and smoking in public in the daytime can offend, and loud music and dancing can too. An operator can be stricter than the general rules, for example by asking guests to drink water inside the vehicle.
How evening safaris differ
Look at these points before you compare prices.
Pickup
The example picks up at a hotel or apartment. Another operator uses central meeting points for shared transfers and collects at a private address only when you book a private car.
The camp meal
One heritage package lists a nature drive, a falcon show and an Arabic dinner, from AED 795 per adult and AED 695 per child including VAT in 2026. That is a different product from a barbecue evening, so compare contents and not only prices.
Drivers and camps
Safari drivers need a permit from Dubai's tourism department, and camps hold their own permits. A permit does not tell you about the quality of the evening, so read the program and the terms.
Booking
One operator advises reserving before you arrive because it has a limited number of vehicles and guides. Last-minute places are not guaranteed.

Evening desert safari: frequently asked questions
How long is an evening desert safari?
The example takes about 6 hours, with pickup at about 4 p.m. and a first transfer leg of about 45 minutes. Other operators set their own times.
Is dune bashing part of it?
In the example, yes: a 30-minute dune and wildlife drive in a 4x4. If you want to avoid fast driving, ask whether the operator offers a nature drive without dune bashing. Some do, but it is a separate product.
How much does it cost?
The example lists a price from $177 in 2026. Vehicle, group size and options change the price, and a child price is not clearly published. Check the total before you pay.
What do the travel advisories say right now?
As of 21 October 2026, the German Foreign Office advises against non-essential travel to the UAE (since 30 September 2026) and cites a volatile regional situation and possible airspace closures. The UK advice of 24 July 2026 cites a risk of escalation and flight disruption. The US lists Level 3 ("Reconsider travel") since 29 August 2026. Read your own government's advice before you book, and note that this example needs notice 24 hours ahead for any refund.
Can I bring a toddler?
In the example, children under 5 need a private vehicle with special seats. Children aged 5 or older and under 135 cm need a child seat and may ride in a shared vehicle. Ask for seats in advance.
Is alcohol served?
It depends on the operator. Some offer drink packages, and one operator serves none. Minimum age is 21 in Dubai.
